LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson dislikes sport without fans – but he says the launch of the Polish season next month is a positive move.
Poland’s lucrative top league will begin behind closed doors in mid-June, but British bosses have already stated this is not an option for the UK under current circumstances.
And although Dickson, who is also a British Speedway Promoters Ltd Director, dislikes sport without fans he’s pleased it’s set to return.
“I noticed football came back in Germany with the Bundesliga last weekend,” he said. “It looks like Poland are starting their top league speedway next month.
“I’m a football fanatic but to be honest I didn’t watch it as it doesn’t seem the same without the crowds and atmosphere which for me is what it’s all about.
“Sport is for the fans. I know they can watch it on TV over there, but it’s the stadium experience for me and I lack interest if there is no crowd.
“But on the positive side it’s the start of little steps towards sport being played again and I give that the big thumbs-up.”
Dickson remains positive there will be some league racing this season in the UK and Leicester are inviting enquiries for private practice with groups of no more than 10 next month.
